Three different learning paths
Sphero presents indi for ages 4+ with screen-free colour-based activities. Mini uses app-based activities; Sphero recommends adult supervision below age 8 because its removable shell exposes small parts. Makeblock recommends adult help below age 8 for mBot2. Our 8+ grouping below is an editorial starting point, not a substitute for the exact kit’s safety instructions.
| Model or scenario | Why consider it | What to validate |
|---|---|---|
| Sphero indi · 4+ | Physical sequences without a screen | Kit contents and adult-led activities |
| Sphero Mini · 8+ editorial grouping | App-based coding in a small space | Device compatibility and small parts |
| Makeblock mBot2 · 8+ editorial grouping | Build, then progress from blocks to Python | Assembly help and computer compatibility |
What should be in the budget?
Include the robot, required device, charging equipment, replacement parts and any learning materials that are not in the box. A classroom pack and a single learner kit are not equivalent offers. Before ordering, try the required app on the device you intend to use.
For a first session, choose a short goal: make indi follow a colour sequence, guide Mini through a marked route, or program mBot2 to react to a sensor. A repeatable activity is more useful than a long list of advertised functions.
