AGV in plain language
An automated guided vehicle traditionally follows more constrained guidance or predetermined routes. Depending on the system, that guidance can involve markers, reflectors, magnetic tape or tightly controlled navigation logic.
AMR in plain language
An autonomous mobile robot generally uses onboard sensing, mapping and planning to navigate more dynamically around obstacles while still respecting safety and mission constraints.
Which matters more than the label?
The name alone does not determine project success. Evaluate the actual traffic rules, safety design, load interface, fleet software, charging strategy and integration with WMS, WES, MES, conveyors or calling systems.
- Payload and load-carrier compatibility
- Aisle widths and mixed human traffic
- Fleet orchestration and congestion handling
- Recovery when a mission or route fails
How to compare vendors
Give vendors the same mission set and facility assumptions. Ask them to explain throughput, fleet size, integration ownership and what happens when the environment changes rather than comparing only maximum speed.

This guide is an editorial analysis of documented product information. It is not a hands-on test. Before purchasing, request a demonstration in your environment and written confirmation of the exact configuration, delivery and service.
